Thermal Imaging
Nearly everything that uses or transmits power generates extreme heat before it fails. Cost effective power management is critical to maintaining the reliability of your electrical and mechanical systems. Today, infrared thermography is proven to be the most effective predictive maintenance (PM) technology available to quickly, accurately, and safely locate problems prior to failure.
At Jamison, we highly recommend regular thermal imaging surveys to ensure the safety and efficiency of your facility’s electrical system. During these surveys, your electrical equipment will be put through a complete thermographic and visual inspection by our trained thermographers. Our inspectors are licensed electricians trained to recognize potential safety issues involving your electrical system and to generate reports to keep you up to date.
In June 2001, Maintenance Technology magazine reported a $4 return on investment for every $1 spent on infrared inspection. Finding and repairing an electrical connection before a component fails can save you the much greater costs associated with manufacturing downtime, production losses, power outages, fires and catastrophic failures.
In a survey conducted by The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co. in Alexandrea, VA, 67% of 127 claims of equipment failure were due to improper electrical connections or parts coming loose. Total reported losses were over $25,000,000, which included losses in production, spoilage, and other related expenses. Of this total amount, over $17,000,000 were the result of failure that could have been prevented with regular thermal imaging surveys.
